Princess Daisy

Princess Daisy gives hugs!

Daisy's costume turned out really well for $2.50 and some hot glue.  I guess that says nothing.  It's good enough.  Now I'm concerned though - what to you do with junk you found at the thrift store that you made worse?  You can't just give it back.  I recently told one of Guy's friends that we buy a lot of our stuff from the thrift store and his response was "You buy broken stuff?!"   I'm on a quest not to junk up the thrift stores.  I guess I could soak her costume in kerosene, stick it in a pumpkin, and light it on fire.

The team:

Guy's overalls cost $30.  It ruined my whole frugal Halloween.  At least he gets to wear them for other things - like dress-like-a-farmer-day at school.  That's a real thing. He actually really likes them and doesn't mind wearing them just because.

Astoria Column

One of my favorite things about the trip was climbing the Astoria Column with the boys and throwing off airplanes.

Airplane Trip

I took my three kiddos on an airplane all by myself.  It went well.  We even had a gentleman comment he didn't realize there were kids behind him the whole flight.  He might have just been really nice.

We went to Seaside, Oregon

I lost Daisy's hat on the beach somewhere.
If you ever see a manatee wearing a cap like this, it was probably stolen and I hope you'll do me a favor by calling the hat barer a sea cow.

Daisy - cap + grandma + brothers=

Tillamook Cheese Factory - Tillamook, Oregon
All Guy talked about before going on this trip was the cheese factory.  When we got there he took a look around (5 minutes or less) and declared he was done at the cheese factory.  Maybe that's all he needed to take care of his curiosities?

Tapiola Park - Astoria, Oregon
Love this place.  Parks have gotten predictable to the point of almost being boring but this park was mostly original equipment.  This whole city is my favorite.  I want to live here.  In a house, not a park.  I also like all the bridges.  We were stopped at a bascule bridge to let a boat through.  I told Guy it was a road to the moon thinking I was being whimsical.  He was concerned for my logic and corrected me.  Sorry.

Great Wolf Lodge - Grand Mound, WA
Kiddos watching the animatronic singing show.  They watched it three times and were ready for more.

Guy went on every water slide.  He rates them all "Let's go again!"

Guy became a Master Magi while playing MagiQuest, no thanks to the assistance of Nels.  MagiQuest is a live-action psuedo-RPG.  I've never seen so many young gamers excited to climb stairs.  It was really great in a way but I felt like it was more story than game.  The game needs to involve more choices.

This was Nels favorite thing at Great Wolf except for the water slides he was not allowed on.  I loved this place.  I would love to go again.  Even little Daisy loved swimming and looking around.

Oregon Zoo - Portland, Oregon
I think the appeal in zoos is when you get to know the animals and these animals were all strangers to me so I can ramble off a list of zoos I like better - but it's all personal.  Thankfully, we got to meet up with the female cousins so they were more fun to observe since I'm kind of attached to them.

Schooled by a 6 Year Old

We were driving west during a sunrise.  Guy asked me if we would always be in the dark.

Mom:  It will get light soon because the sun moves faster than our car.
Guy:  You mean the earth spins faster than our car.

The Little Zoo

I don't think my kids are sheltered anymore, Nels is just two.  These deer?  They are "Small cows.  Moooooooo!"  The Iguana?  "Alligator"  The deer poop?  That's stuff to load your pockets with.  And the best, coolest animal at the zoo?  The house cats that reside in the office.

I was happy Guy chose to feed the deer.  He usually isn't in to stuff like this.

He is always happy to pose!

Nels is always happy to imitate!

My favorite animal - the sloth.  Guy frequently asks me what my favorite animal is and I tell him a sloth and his response is usually "Huh?"  I pointed it out to him and told him how cute it is and I just want to squeeze it.  This is why Guy talks the way he does I'm sure.  "Everybody loves to be loved!"  -Guy

In other "the things Guy says" news we got milkshakes after the zoo and Guy spilled his in the car.  I was so mad!  I yelled and flailed my arms about.  When he refused to help me clean it up, I pushed him.  I was terrible.  When I apologized later Guy told me if he acted like that at school his clip would be moved (basically he'd get in trouble).  He's right and so sweet.  Even if I had to physically force him to help me clean.  He was probably just scared of me.  And slightly lazy.  But aren't we all?
