Stuff I'm Trying in March

Jennifer over at Ramblings of a Suburban Mom has a super spiffy idea trying new stuff on a monthly basis.  So I'm copying.  Here are things I plan to try in March...

Mother Goose Time Preschool Curriculum
 photo curriculumImagegif_zps87198b45.jpg
This looks like so much fun to me!  I'm the kind of person that thinks school and worksheets are fun.  I want it for Nels, especially now that he's approaching the tough 2's and with the arrival of baby Daisy he needs a little extra attention.  I have a feeling big brother Guy will love this too.

Strawberry Dream Cake

I saw this cake of an episode of Cook's Country (America's Test Kitchen?  They are the same, right?).  I want it.  My birthday is in March so I plan to make myself this cake.  I'll force Guy & Nels to do some of the work.

Baby "Spa" Bathtub
 photo BabyBucketTub_zps9155eda3.jpg
Yeah, it's a bucket.  I'm not bathing my baby in a "real" bucket because I don't know if people will think I'm weird for doing that.  But I found one of these baby buckets at the consignment store for cheap.  I hope baby Daisy will be big enough for it in March.  We'll try it out.

Quarterly Co. (Joel Johnson)
 photo bvh01_zpsda57358a.jpg
Quarterly Co. has a bunch of different boxes curated by different people.  I picked Joel Johnson who makes boxes inspired by the memory of his grandma.  I think it sounds sweet and slow-paced.  But I don't know his grandma so I might be in for a shock.  His first month's box was about corn bread, as seen above.  Super cute.  I had a hard time picking between Joel Johnson and Felix Salmon, whose first box was focused around camping and the movie Moonrise Kingdom.  Plus Felix is a finance blogger.  I'm envious of anyone who knows enough about finance to make it as a writer.  Plus Moonrise Kingdom was awesome.

Downton Abbey

I've heard about this show from other moms, family members, ladies at Church, the gals at the scrapbook store, everyone.  I know it'll be good but I just haven't wanted to put the time into getting to like it.  Look at all those characters!  It's no Red Dwarf, that's for sure.

Nifty Outdoor Toys

Last year for Nels' birthday we gave him a Power Wheel (driver included).

I think a Power Wheel is a great toy.  The kids seem to be able to use it  frequently without getting bored and they are learning to kind-of, sort-of drive too.  Plus they have to take turns.  And problem solve too when they get stuck in a ditch.

Nels is learning to drive his Power Wheel now.

I'm already thinking of a toy for Nels' next birthday, in April.  I struggle to find gifts for the kids that I don't dread having to clean up.  This toy won't end up on my living room floor and it looks like tons of fun to me.  Nels probably will not be an airplane pilot due to his height so we should let him pretend now.  Hopefully the family approves.

Kids Subscription Boxes

We've been getting Kiwi Crates for awhile and we recently tried 2 months of Babba Co.  I think they are both great but Babba Co. costs $10 more and aside from the book they send that matches the months theme I didn't think it was that much better than Kiwi Crate.  I like how obscure some of the Kiwi Crate stuff is.  Like in this month's theme of Pets...

Go Away Monster! Board Game

Nels received the Go Away Monster! board game for Christmas.  He was already playing Zingo (matching game) almost correctly and this one is simpler.
 photo goawaymonster_zps242f7833.jpg

Nels is 22 months and can play this game but he follows his own rules.  He can grab a piece from the bag and match it up to his game board.  But then he usually walks away or messes up his board so he can start over.  It works.  He's still really young for games so I count this as a success.  Not a messy game (yay!) and he can play it for more than a couple of minutes.

Grave Digger

Guy went to Lowe's Build & Grow again.  He made Grave Digger.  In two weeks he can go back and make Monster Mutt.  I've never heard of that one.  Guess I'm behind on my monster truck knowledge.

We left little brother at home this time so we actually took our time and read the instructions.  I think this is the first project we've done at Lowe's that dad didn't have to fix when we got home.

Guy is pretty impressed!

Food Subscription Boxes

I might be a picky eater.  I never thought I was but after getting these food subscription boxes I noticed I rarely want to eat the stuff.

This was my latest try: - it's only $7/mo so it's super cheap for a subscription box.  But it wasn't worth $7 to me.  I'd rather go to the store and buy $7 worth of other stuff.

I already canceled it. Along with my Love With Food box. I'm not loving food lately, I guess.  Don't get me wrong, the stuff in here was totally edible.  I would rather spend my money elsewhere.  No more food boxes for me. (Actually, I've been getting graze boxes and think I like them.  I'll decide in a couple more weeks.)

Free with Purchase

You know what I think I like more than subscription boxes is freebies with purchase.  Because you are paying money for stuff you want/need plus you get a surprise with it.

I think has a nifty deal.  I didn't look too hard at the picture though because I like surprises.  Spend $45 in the green & natural department and get a tote bag filled with samples.  I bought some health & beauty stuff and some snack foods.  A box of diapers would have worked too though.  Link to the deal seems to frequently have deals where you get a sample bag.  I have just been using their "favorites" feature to mark things I want to buy and then when they have a good deal like this - spend $25, get free shipping and free sample bag - I place my order.  That way if I go to my list and don't see $25 worth of stuff I want I can ignore the deal until next time.  Because there will be a next time before you know it.

PopSugar February Box Review

My PopSugar referral link

The day I brought home baby I received my February PopSugar box.  That's good because I thought I could use a present.

 photo DSCN2365_zpscc87a112.jpg

It was a towel wrap, book, lipstick, underoos, candy, and jewelry cleaner.

I was excited about the book since I don't have anything currently to read now.  It's not a book I would have picked out at the library but I'm happy to give it a try.  I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book but so far it seems like an easy read and I like those every so often.  They make me feel like a fast reader even though I'm not.  If I'm holding a book there is a good chance I'm not actually reading it.

The towel wrap was the "big" item and was valued at over $80.  I obviously don't know the value of a towel wrap because I wouldn't pay any amount for one.  I found someone online who was looking to trade for one so I begged them take this one.  I also got some beauty products in return - pretty swell.

This is my 3rd PopSugar box and so far so good.  I like that I can't guess what they will send.  Most boxes you can at least guess the category of stuff being sent but not with this one.

Best Time of Day?

Why that would be approximately 1:30pm...
Nap Time!  Or TV time for the one person in the house that does not nap.  He watched Phineas and Ferb.  I slept but because of the show Guy made me sleep in the Fireside Girls hat he made for me.  Napping with a pile of construction paper on your head is okay if you are really tired.

I like how Daisy has already accepted our routines as her own.

My Little Valentine!

 photo Daisy_zps80bcdcbe.jpg

Baby Daisy was born on Monday, February 11th.  6lb 9oz, 18 in.  1 week early.

Took me awhile to accept I was in labor early.  I blamed the dinner I had at Taco Bell.  Taco Bell gives people pains, correct?  I still like Taco Bell.  Anyway I realized I was in labor at 7PM on the 10th, got to the hospital at about 9pm and little Daisy was born at 3am.  Was a pretty easy labor as far as having babies is concerned.  Daisy is a good little baby.  She's nice to look at too.

Ready for Baby

I packed my hospital bag.  I wasn't planning on it since it's not like I ever use anything I take but this little baby doesn't want to wear the hospital provided white shirt and diapers.  She likes pink.  Until she meets her brothers, then she'll like the color of bug guts and boogers.

 Cutest diapers ever!

I joined Goodreads at the beginning of this year.  I was hoping to get some book suggestions but all it tells me is economics books are great.  I already know that.  And I want to read something else.

 photo goodreads_zps910e3949.png

What's neat about goodreads is you can put in a 2013 reading goal and it tracks it for you.  It tells me stuff like "You have read 3 books toward your goal of 12 books. Awesome, you're 2 books ahead of schedule!"

I might have set my goal low.  I have just been picking really bad books lately so I wasn't really into the idea of reading.  But then I read something like "The War of the Dwarves" and it's all good.  Dwarves are my favorite fantasy race.  They get lots done.  Plus they can lift heavy things.  I can't do either of those things.

Cute Stuff

I'm 38 weeks pregnant today so I have just been sitting/laying around and staring at the children.  They are pretty cute.  They even make cute messes.

 photo DSCN2339_zps38f0755b.jpg

Nels heard "Band on the Run" on the car radio last week and we are lucky I didn't drive into a ditch (I am good at that) because his dance moves were so distracting. I played it for him at home and he still deemed it dance worthy.
