Julep Maven Subcription Box

I got my first non-Kiwi subscription box.  Julep sells nail polish stuff.  I'm not a nail polish enthusiast but they had a deal I couldn't resist.  JULEPVIP or COLOR2012 will get your first box for $0.01 (usually $19.99) + s/h = $4 total.  I'll pay that to get mail of any kind.  Plus I got to take a quiz so they could guess which colors I'd like the best.  I like personalization.

This was the stuff.  The bottles are pretty to look at.  I'm not messing with glitter though.  They didn't quiz my messiness threshold.  Maybe Guy can make a snow globe with it.

I won't spend $20/month on nail polish but they let you skip months so I can still say I'm a member without buying more nail polish than I can use.  That's cool.

Subscription Boxes

Guy has been getting Kiwi Crates for months now. Every month he gets a box of super awesome projects to build. I would say "crafts" but that's just not a manly word. And he's only made one apron so far with Kiwi.

Here he is with  most recent - a xylophone.  He also made jingle bell bracelets, plus it had a booklet of 5 or so instruments he could make with cups and straws and such.  He made them all by himself.  I was quite impressed.

We look forward to Guy's Kiwi Crate every month so I was wondering if there was anything else out there like it. And there is - not just for craft projects, but monthly boxes of snacks, baby clothes, pocket squares, you name it. It's like buying surprises for yourself. And like all surprises you could be setting yourself up for disappointment.  I like getting mail regardless.  I'm going to try some other ones.

Get out!

Guy and his friend brought a bird in the house yesterday. Actually it was more of his friend carried the bird in while Guy yelled "Bird, stay outside! Birds are not toys!" Nels wasn't sure what to think. Thankfully the bird eventually left through a window.

Packages Are Coming In...

Guy asked for a box this morning he could turn into a pirate ship.  I told him I'd see what I could do.  Look what just showed up at the door!  I like it when stuff like that happens.  When he gets home from school I can casually ask him "Will this box do?" and of course he'll get teary eyed and say I'm the best.  Serious.  Last night he got emotional over a pair of gifted boxer shorts.

I think the box is full of diapers but I'm not really sure.  Been ordering too much junk online for Black Friday/Cyber Monday.  If it is diapers it seems like it could be shipped like our toilet paper...

That was actually one of the best deals I found this weekend.  Will make a spectacular Christmas gift for the husband.  Doubles as wrapping paper too.

Quiet Church Activities

I'm too lazy to make Nels a real Quiet Book with super awesome stuff in it - like this sock matching game.  But today I did make him some Quiet Book pages (I guess you could call them that).  He just sat there and played with them as I made them.  He probably got bored of them so the next time I show them to him he'll eat them.  And one has a marble in it - shoot.

I used alphabet beads to spell out some words he should learn.  Guy also picked out a word for him, volcano.

Here's a couple ideas I used that were really fast and easy...

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

We watched "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" today while eating toast, jelly beans, pretzel sticks, and popcorn.  The kids thought it was the best meal ever.  They thought Peppermint Patty was crazy for dissing it.

We also spent the day doing whatever we felt like.  Nels has odd desires.

And just so you know I didn't deprive my kids of a real Thanksgiving dinner, here it is.  But they really could have cared less it was served.  It didn't beat the popcorn.
