A Good Pal

Nels' favorite friends is Winnie the Pooh.  Followed distantly by his older brother.

Nels letting Pooh play a game.  Too bad Pooh's plush hand doesn't register on the Kindle.  Nels should help Pooh type a complaint letter.

Free Dinner and Take-Out Boxes

We went out for dinner last night.  The couple sitting next to us paid for our food.  I hope it's because we seemed like a jolly family that gave them great hope for the future.  But it could have easily been a pity moment of why did that pregnant lady take her two wiggly kids out for dinner and order them pancakes.  Do they ever get breakfast?  Either way, it was very kind and many thanks to those strangers.

After our meal Guy nicely asked the waitress for a box.  Then I realized how much food he had left... four bites of pancake. He did eat it later that night but I think it would have fit in his pocket.  Good job on the verbal skills, though.

TV Time

Nels thinks watching TV is the best thing.  If you sit in front of the TV he'll bring you the remote.  If you say the word "cartoon" he goes running towards the TV.  His favorite show is "Sesame Street".  He also likes the PBS program "Trapped in an Elevator".

I can tell how good TV is for him just buy looking at him while he watches it.  Good in the way of if there is a hungry lion in our living room, Nels might be okay by blending in with the furniture. Too bad he has a strange smell.

Nels was eating blue lollipops so he might be more of a scary dude.

Guy's 5th Birthday

Guy's 5th birthday was 2 weeks ago.  He wanted a party in the backyard...with a pinata, birthday cake, and party hats.  Due to his small demands, his party was a smashing success.

I let him pick out everything at the party store.  Nothing matched.  When I asked him if we had everything, his reply was we still needed presents for him to open.  I think he has this birthday party thing figured out.

Guy picked out the cutest Diego Pinata.  I thought it would be sad to hit him but no one really cared.  Nels tried to stuff all the candy back in him, though.  Losing your innards is a bad thing.

Guy and his "Bad Birds" cake.  He loves Angry Birds.  I don't know why.

Guy's Summer

Guy spent most of June/July in summer school being super sweet, making stuff like this...
Photobucket

He must have liked school a lot because at home this is the kind of stuff he'd do for fun...

The first day of Kindergarten was at the end of July.  That seemed odd.

School is a struggle for him but he loves going and it's hard not to feel proud when he comes home with incredible stuff like this...

Some of his artwork appears normal until he talks about it.  My favorite baby picture is on the bottom right.  It's a drawing of him in my belly.  And there is an ultrasound picture in the background.  When he imagines being a baby, he goes back pretty far.

Nels' Summer

Nels spent his summer swimming and tooting.  One was more successful than the other.

Swimming in the backyard @ 15 months old.

Playing with quality toys @ 16 months

He also ate lots of unripe stuff out of the garden.  Sometimes he'd share with the chickens.

He fell asleep on a train like the hobo he is.

And he let his mommy put a fancy shirt on him so she could get a decent 17 month picture of him at the end of the summer.  This is what she got...
