Thrifting for a Walrus

Had coupons for the thrift store that were expiring 12/31.  Can't waste them!  The kids wanted to look at toys for hours so we were lucky to buy some none toy items.  Brought home mostly cars, puzzles, and books.

Found the cutest shirt and shoes for little Lucy!

AND THE COOLEST COOKIE JAR EVER!
I thought my husband would be mad for bringing such an ugly thing into our house.  But he wasn't mad or even shocked.  I guess he knows me.  Probably doesn't help that on our honeymoon I fell in love with a Walrus cookie jar.  But that one was hundreds of dollars versus several dollars, like this one.

Dec 25 - Merry Christmas!

Some random pictures of the day...

Guy loved the train.  We had a Thomas the Train sheet over it and the first thing when he got up was yell "THOMAS!" and pull at the sheet.

He would take occasion breaks from train playing to unwrap more presents.

Lucy preferred to clean house.
"This place is a wreck!"

Lucy insisted on dressing up to carry around her new purse and grocery bag.

Snack time!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Dec 24 - Church, Food, Lights

My favorite day of all the holiday and I didn't take any pictures!

We went to a different Church than usual because it was having a Childrens' Mass.  Kids really weren't that entertained but it went well.

Then we had dinner at my favorite place in the world, Texas Roadhouse.  Zero wait and kids were little angels.  Plus it's one of those places that give you bread and peanuts right away and then we got our salads and our bloomin' onion right after that, then we got our steaks and such not far after that.  And Lucy ate a crayon.  Best food ever!  And did I mention the kids were extremely well behaved?

After dinner we drove around looking at Christmas lights and listening to Christmas songs on the radio.  Because I wanted to.  I don't think anyone else cared.

Oh, guess I got one picture!  After the kids went to bed we (and by we I mean mostly not me) built this for the kids...

Dec 23 - New Veggie Movie

We watched the new Veggie Tales Christmas movie, It's A Meaningful Life.  It was okay.  Not really funny, not really Christmas-y.  Kids liked it enough.

Oh yeah... we ate chocolate cupcakes too.

And if you think Lucy is messy all the time, you are right.  Here she is eating ribs.  And we've never seen her so happy.

Dec 22 - Guy's Gifting

We put out presents for the garbage men.  Guy was a superb helper.

Hopefully if the gifts end up in the garbage it will be after they are seen.  Never gave the garbage men presents before - not sure how one goes about it.  I don't just want to stare out the window all day just to have them drive by after I've fallen asleep.

We got the mailman a present too.  I know how to do that.  Well actually I don't.  Is it okay to put other things besides mail in a mailbox?  Last year he took it without fining me so I think we are okay.  We bought them some local coffee (locally roasted that is).  I don't know if any of them drink coffee but everyone knows someone who does so it should be easy to get rid of.

Dec 21 - Early Gift

Grandpa Steve mailed the kids some money for Christmas.  I should feel blessed that the minute they saw their $ they just handed it to me.  "Go buy yourself some new shoes, fat ma."  Unfortunately I have a conscious.

I put in the order for some stock purchasing today.
Lucy's buying BP because she not a fan of gumbo.  She's doesn't dislike it, but she doesn't know what it is.

Guy's buying Darden (Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc) because he plans to take his mom on lots of dates to Olive Garden in the future.  Plus he learned a lot about gumbo in "The Princess and the Frog" but doesn't know if Red Lobster sells it but he thinks it's worth a shot.

Dec 20 - Cornish Hens

We went grocery shopping for Christmas food.  I wanted a ham but couldn't find a good price on them so I'm going to make Cornish Hens for the first time.  I can only guarantee they will not look this good...

Dec 19 - Craft Update

Stockings turned out super cute!

Here's Santas with colorful beards!

Dec 18 - Snow Day with Dad

I got the kids dressed in their snow gear so they could go play outside with dad.  Then they'd come inside and take off their gear and 10 minutes later they'd want to go back out again.  I think I spent at least an hour of that day just helping kids get dressed and undressed.

Dec 17 - Unwrapping

Kids caught unwrapping fever.

Lucy found a present.  Despite my awesome hiding job, Guy kept pulling it out and telling Lucy to finish unwrapping it. Not even her present!

So we eventually brought out some Christmas candy to unwrap.  That will satisfy them for a bit...

Dec 16 - Mailing Presents

We got to the post office at lunch time and that's a silly time to go in.  We went to Wendy's instead.

Oranges + Ranch = The Best

Guy didn't have time to eat.  He had to build this really elaborate Yogi bear riding a flying picnic table (?) out of paper.  As soon as we got home and he left it unattended I threw it away.  I'm nice like that.

Half way through our meal Lucy slammed her head down on the table for no reason that I could see.  Maybe she was trying to squash a fly.  She got a black eye and a huge bruise on the bridge of her nose.  I keep mistaking her for Mickey Rourke.  I guess that doesn't make any sense.

Finally made it to the post office!  While I waited in line and paid for everything the kids just sat UNDER a bench.  Maybe they were hiding but I could see them so I was happy.  When we left I made one carry the keys and one the bag.  Guy took two steps before pawning both off on Lucy.  Lazy boy.

Dec 15 - Painting Ornaments

When we were at JoAnn's getting fabric Guy found a train ornament he just haaaad to haaave.  We grabbed a gingerbread ornament for Lucy.

Lucy:  "Paint his face!
I’m gonna paint his face!"
Mom:  "Then what you gonna do?"
Lucy:  "I’m gonna paint his face again!"

Paint your wagon train red, little buddy.

BLUE!  BLUE!  BLUE!

There's your blue, little lady.

Changed my mind.. GIMME EVERYTHING!  Need more paint.

My Crafty Boy

This morning I caught Guy cutting up pieces of felt and trying to sew!  I was so proud of him.  (This was candy making day if you can't tell by his face.)

Then later he showed me a craft in his "Trains4Kids" magazine and wanted to make one!  A mother's dream come true!  So we got out the construction paper and glue stick and went to it.  The train is in the shape of Guy's hand and arm.  Guy cut the train windows by himself and did a majority of the gluing.  After I cut the wheels for him he went through them and gave a couple the rating of "Uh oh!" and made me redo them.  So mom can't cut circles.  Big deal.  He was so proud of it when he was done.  Hopefully enough so to want to make another one tomorrow.

Dec 14 - Christmas Candy!

We made candy for Christmas.

I had to unwrap 50 of these little caramels.  Ugh!  I enlisted Lucy to get a bulk of the work done.  Pretty sure she ate more than she unwrapped.

The sugar is getting to Lucy.  Had to get Guy in to help.

Made Lucy take a break.  She just stared out the window.

Back to work!  Wait a minute...

Well I did it by myself.  But Guy tested them.  All of them.  Several times.

Dec 13 - Mailing Cards

We mailed 12 cards.  Because that's all I could do before I got bored and tired.  More later!

"Whoopsies!"

"Someone lower this box!"

Dec 12 - Decorating the Tree

The decorations are up!  Little Lucy had the very important job of putting the angel on the tree.

Then she wanted her favorite stuffed animal to be on the tree.  We obliged.

Guy said "No thanks!"  I don't want any of my stuff on the tree.  Not even my own ornaments.

Dec 11 - Cutting the Tree

We went to the glorious state of California to cut our tree.  With the proper permit, of course.  The kids opened one of their presents from grandma early - snow pants and boots.  Hats and gloves too.

Lucy was easy to spot out there in the snow.  She loved her new little pigtails.

Guy was happy to make snowmen and splash in the mud puddles.

Lucy found the perfect tree!  Too bad daddy didn't agree.

Dec 10 - Decorations

We pulled out the decorations to get ready for the tree.

Lucy found a hat.

Dec 9 - Shrek the Halls

I was having a tired, lazy day so we didn't do much but we let the kids stay up a half hour later at bedtime so they could watch Shrek the Halls on TV.

Guy thought the idea was the coolest thing ever.

Lucy though it was just plain crazy.
