Candy Making!

We made Christmas candy yesterday. Most was delicious but I didn't care for the homemade marshmallows - and those were the messiest to make! They were Guy's favorite though.

15th of December

Guy was a big help wrapping Christmas gifts. He taught me how to be more efficient but unrolling all the wrapping paper at once. After we wrapped the gifts I put them in big cardboard boxes and tapped them closed. That way I don't have to wrap them again. The joy of toddlers!

14th of December

We went food shopping yesterday to make a Christmas food box for a family at Church.

Guy decorated the box and Lucy packed it up.

11th, 12th, and 13th

We finished our Christmas shopping on Friday! The snow was coming down and I had to walk through icy parking lots trying to hold a baby and keep a little boy balanced. It actually worked out. My favorite part of our trip was going to the Disney Store. Guy was wearing his Carhartt coat, Wrangler jeans, and hiking boats - he looked like such a little man. But he was so into dancing to the Jonas Brothers music video they were playing on the TV. I wish his dad could have seen him...

We didn't even get out of the mall parking lot before the kids fell asleep. Guy fell asleep holding his water bottle and when I had to slam on the brakes the water went flying all over the car. He didn't notice.

Lucy nearly fell asleep as I took her picture. She's still a little shopper in training.

On Saturday I try to have the little ones make Christmas wrapping paper. I ended up throwing it out because Lucy was eating it and Guy was tearing it into tiny bits. They had fun.

"I didn't eat it! Where's your proof?"

On Sunday we watched the new VeggieTales Christmas movie. It is my new favorite VeggieTales - Guy liked it a lot too. We recommend it.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland
Nothing quite like taking an hour to get ready for a 10 minute walk...Some of us didn't quite enjoy the snow...

9th of December

Just finished Christmas Cards! Guy and Lucy were fighting over who got to play with the stamps and the pen and I was lucky to have survived the ordeal.
I'm pretty excited about my cards. I paid $3.19 for 50 of them through a promotion at Next year I need to remember to have Christmas pictures ready in November if I want a good deal!

7th Day of December

Guy & his dada had to go check on the hens. Even with a shoveled path I saw Guy fall down once!

I put all the decorations out in the one place that is out of Guy's reach - the garden window. I can start caring how things look later. Big kudos to moms who have a nice looking house.

5th and 6th Days of December

We got our Christmas tree on Saturday and put it up on Sunday.

What can I say? We have a little boy climbing in our tree all day.

3rd & 4th Days of December

Yesterday at Guy's developmental playgroup all the kids worked on a "hand wreath" as a thank you Christmas gift for our host site.

Today Guy and Lucy made their very own!Guy decorated. Lucy provided a "hand". Momma used scissors.

Lucy's 1/2 Birthday!

I was hoping to do something Christmas-y every day of December but Lucy's half birthday was yesterday! Plus we had new windows installed yesterday so it was a busy day!

We went to Wendy's for an early lunch.
Lucy got a Frosty and as you can see she wields a spoon quite naturally.
Guy thinks "Lucy should have a half birthday everyday!"

Then we went to Pump It Up (inflatable play place) so Guy would be out of our hair for a bit. Lucy told me all about her dreams - to be allowed on the play equipment and to grow some bangs. She also wants to scuba dive. Lucy enjoyed watching the big kids and chatting with some babies who were there with their big siblings.

Then we came home and Guy let Lucy watch him play a game. So generous!

Dessert time!
"You're going to share that, right?"
And yes she did!
"I could have swore I had more... I have the sharing remorse."

1st Day of December!

It's December! To celebrate we went to get some Christmas ornaments today!

I got the 26th house is the series I collect. My mom started buying them for me when I was a baby.
I wanted to get my kids started on a series too but I just haven't liked any yet. So for Guy's 1st and 2nd Christmas I picked out ornaments for him (1st- Ford Fairlane since the man he was named after drove one and 2nd - a slot machine since that's what his daddy works with). This year I thought I'd let him pick out his ornament. Well, he picked out a little frame surrounded by basketballs, soccer balls, and footballs. Being the nice mom I am I told him "No way are you getting that! That's doesn't mean anything!" I'm pretty sure he's going to end up with this one once it's back in stock:
Guy loves his Hot Wheels. They are his #1 played with toys and he usually doesn't go anywhere without one. (EDIT: It never came back in stock. He picked out a Snoopy choo-choo train. It seems appropriate since he loves trains and has been watching the Charlie Brown Thanksiving cartoon well after Thanksgiving has been over.)

I got this one for Lucy today:
It's so cute and it is her first Christmas. Plus Guy likes to pull Lucy around in a wagon so Lucy and Winnie the Pooh have more in common than that they both love food. They do have a series starting this year that I love but I'm worried that if i get Lucy started on it she'll get mad that Guy gets to pick out his ornament and she is stuck with the series one. (EDIT: I went back to buy this one but it was out of stock for good. I guess I could try to find one on eBay or just forget about it.)
I might just get it and hope there is a series next year to start Guy on. It's so cute and Lucy is going to love baking some day or at least eating baked goods.

Thanksgiving Trip

Lake Tahoe! We took the kids to Lake Tahoe for the long Thanksgiving weekend. It was pretty cold so we spent our time on nice drives and cozied up on the couch. Very relaxing! The kids slept wonderfully, too! There was one point during the night both kids were in our bed but that didn't last long! As soon as Guy woke up he wandered back to his little Lightening McQueen tent and sleeping bag.

Cakes and Crafts

I made a cake for Thanksgiving. It is the Chocolate Truffle Cake from Dec/Jan 2010 "Taste of Home" magazine. Too much chocolate!! Well, no, that's impossible.

Most of my crafts lately have been around Scrapbooking. Each kid has their own book(s). Birth - 1 year old I do two pages per month then 1yr+ I just do one page per month. Then after awhile hopefully it'll be two pages per season because I'm not good at staying up-to-date with this stuff!

Today I made rubber stamping cool again. Wait - when was it cool? I made my brother a birthday card. It's pretty swell.

Darn Chickens

I found a secret cache of chicken eggs! We thought these eggs would be fine to eat but it just didn't seem right since in reality I had no way of knowing how long they had been there. How do you salvage 17 questionable chicken eggs? Kitty Feast!!

Happy Veteran's Day!

To celebrate a mighty fine holiday we went thrift shopping. Savers had 50% off their clothes today. Everybody got a couple of things plus a baby boy got some things too. Which baby boy? I have no idea. Hopefully the one we have later. I also got a toy for Guy, three board games and an embroidery hoop. I'm going to copy Monica and do something similar to this (but not as ambitious - just the hand thing and I'm going to put both kids hand on one).

The loot and one happy little girl.
Lucy says "You bought me pink stuff this time, right???"

One tired out boy and his helicopter that will probably break today.
I told Guy he could have one toy. He picked out a cool giant race car for 99cents. Then at check-out they have their "new" toys displayed - they are junky and overpriced. It sucked him in and he switched his car for the helicopter. As soon as we left the building he became so depressed when he realized what he had done. I said "I told you so!"

Around the house...

While my husband was off hunting I had a friend come over and we made soap from scratch! It's ready to use now. The first time I tried to use it my hands were burning! My hands were really cut up that day though from trying to rescue a chicken from a blackberry bush so maybe that had something to do with it.
Our first egg laying hen laid on Friday, October 9th. And today all four chickens laid an egg. All hens have established their right to not be slaughtered! Two hens lay big eggs that can be used for baking - the other two hens make little breakfast eggs.

I made scones today using some chicken eggs! I used the delicious recipe from King Arthur Flour's baking book.

It's Autumn!

As usual it feels like I'm behind in everything. But the kids seems to be enjoying life and that's priority #1.

I raked a pile of leaves for Guy to jump in. When he first wouldn't go in I threw him in and became his most hated adult for two seconds. But it didn't take him long to see the joy of jumping in leaves.

At the Pumpkin Patch! They had a train ride which was his favorite and he was fascinated with the miniature horses. Lucy slept all the time in my front pack so she didn't get her picture taken.

Here's the Lucy pictures.

She was so hungry she ate the whole bowl.

Tired times...

It was cold over the weekend and we fired up the pellet stove for the first time this autumn. It was so cozy Guy couldn't stay awake.

My little boy turned two on Monday! We've been traveling so much lately we just stayed at home and did some of his favorite things like...

Wearing Silly Hats While Watching Cartoons

Eating Play-Doh
(First you got to make it into spaghetti!)

Holding your Sisters Hand While You Eat a TV Dinner

Baking Brownies

And last and most importantly...
Dipping Fish Sticks Into Whipped Cream

One weekend ago...

We went to Oregon for my sister-in-law's wedding. And being the great relative I am I took two pictures. There were better things to be doing than taking pictures especially since I can steal pictures from someone else. It was a long trip because I could not get the kids to sleep. But they have been sleeping very well since we've gotten home - phew. My favorite thing at the wedding was the bride and grooms cake. They had a little cake to cut and served cheesecake to the guests. Well I stole some of their cake after they cut it and it was seriously the best chocolate cake I'd ever had. If cake represents happiness and abundance of children I think I should have about 10 more nieces and nephews soon.
