Merry Christmas!

We spent a week in Oregon for the holidays. It was a lot of fun and a little tiring!

I have been busy since we've gotten back trying to get organized and find time to play with my new Christmas presents! My in-laws got me a bread maker and my husband built me a bread slicing contraption (pictured below). Bread is delicious.

And my mom got us a video camera! Now I can film Guy and his Wiggles-inspired dances. I plan to film the new year tomorrow. We'll see how I do.

Snow Day!

It snowed today. We didn't run the errands we had planned on and just stayed in with the minor exception of playing in the snow. Guy's not sure about it. It's cold and hard to walk in. He stayed on the shoveled sidewalks for the most part. When he ventured off into the deep snow he'd always call for help.

Here is Guy on our porch. I threw him out there for while so I didn't have to chase him around.

After our hot cocoa:

What I love...

I love it when Guy is sooo quiet that I know he is up to something terrible but when I sneak up on him he is just reading a book.

Thanksgiving in Fort Bragg

We spent our Thanksgiving in Fort Bragg, CA. We've never been there, don't know anyone there, we just needed a vacation. Being at the ocean is a big plus.

I was a little worried about the 6 hour drive and sharing a room with a 14 month old. I thought it might not be a relaxing trip! But it was! We stopped every two hours on the drive to play at a park or in one case, a cemetery. We couldn't find a park! Guy liked the cemetery, though. He went to every headstone and gave it a pat while yelling "Aaahh!" which meant "Happy Thanksgiving!" And sharing a room was easy. Guy loved spending every hour of the day with us. We had to sit in dark silence for 10 minutes or so at 8PM so Guy would go to sleep then we could do whatever. It worked out great. I'm looking forward to another vacation!

We did lots of hiking and exploring. There we many beautiful parks and beaches around. We didn't make it to them all!

Guy liked the beach. Not a love, yet. He was suspicious of the water and the sand and the shells. He discovered many things - like sand in the eyes is a minor annoyance. But, throwing sand in the air when it is windy is so fun it's worth any annoyance. Sand also tastes funny. Guy couldn't figure out if it was a good funny or a bad funny, not even after several handfuls.

Guy's favorite part of the trip was this chocolate banana shake. We only ate out once a day and the rest of the meals we brought with us. We (okay, just me) like to be frugal even when on vacation.

Reusable Sandwich Wraps

I was using Wrap-N-Mats for my husbands lunches for the past 8 months or so but the lining has cracked it them so I've been using tin foil for the past month - how wasteful! Instead of ordering more I decided to make my own. The store-bought ones cost $7 each and these three cost me about $5 to make, $1.67 each.

I don't know how well they will work yet but tried one for the first time today! I need more practice getting the shape right (I just winged it pretty much) but I'm happy what $5 and one hour of my time made. If my husband has no complaints I'll be making more shortly. Might even make some chip/cookie holders too.

No More Friday Fun Day

We got our oil changed and our car washed today instead of saving that for Friday. Shucks! We didn't get nachos liked planned. We shared a hot dog instead. It was the best hot dog I've ever had while getting my oil changed. In fact it was the best 79 cent hot dog ever.I'm caught up for the week except I still need to scrub the things under the stove top burners. And I have some sewing to do today. I guess I better get on that if I don't want to do it tomorrow!

Food Update

Here's our dinner from the other night. We had an early Thanksgiving. We even watched our Charlie Brown Thanksgiving DVD before our meal. We probably won't be eating turkey on Thanksgiving so don't worry about us getting sick of turkey.
On Monday I baked some delicious Lemon Poppy Seed Bread. This morning I had it sitting too close to the edge of the counter and a little boy ate it. Did I mention I just vacuumed yesterday evening? Having tall children has it's disadvantages.

Cleaning the Kitchen!

Here is a pretty embarrassing photo of my kitchen... to my defense, Guy put the stuff on the floor.

Ahhh... much nicer! Guy is in the way back - he just sorted the recycling and was in the process of unloading the dryer. He tries to be helpful.

Book Sale

We went to a book sale this weekend that was $6 for a bag of books. I had a couple books in our bag and was contemplating putting them back until my husband found the handyman and hunting books. Guy found an Elmo board book and some cassette tapes of kids songs. I found some craft books, some game books, and a book on squirrels - everyone's favorite rodents! It took us over an hour to pick out our books and we were reading all day Sunday.

Happy Halloween

Guy was a spider this Halloween. His grandma got him this costume before he was even born! I finished knitting the hat for him and it was way too big but I was able to take it in a lot. I was pretty sick with morning sickness on Halloween so we didn't do much. But Guy went out for a little walk and had a delicious Dum-Dum sucker. He ate the whole thing! Not all of the stick, though... He practiced a little self control.

Where have I been?

I haven't been posting often - so what's changed?

1. Guy is taking less naps and walking. He can tear apart the house in 10 seconds and he generally acts like he drank a gallon of Mountain Dew. He is lots of fun to play with and watch so I don't get much done.

2. Nine weeks pregnant! Started getting morning sickness a couple weeks ago. It's not bad, but it makes mornings tough. I'm not as sick as I was with Guy and for that I'm very thankful.

3. Trying to move. We are wanting to move pretty badly and so I sit around and think about it instead of actually doing stuff. I get anxious easily.

If most days end with the house being clean enough and everyone is fed, I consider it a success.

Guy's Shenanigans

During breakfast Guy is always such a little goofball. I think it's because his daddy is there to laugh at him.
The other day Guy disappeared and after much too long of silence I sneaked up on him to discover...he was reading a book?

Parenting Don'ts

Don't leave your kid alone with your lunch. I had lots of things to carry into the house and I always put Guy in the house first. Well I wasn't paying attention to the order in which I carried up the other things or I wouldn't have arranged for him to be alone with my cheeseburger.

The Zoo

We went to our tiny little Reno zoo today. The power was out so Guy couldn't watch his cartoons this morning so he needed to see Big Bird and Murray's Little Lamb.

This is a picture we took of a mirror.

Visiting with some friends. We saw them inside the cage but every time I got close to a good pic, a deer would eat Guy and I would have to pry him out of a slobbery mouth.

"Come back! I have some tasty little toes!"

Saying good bye to Mr. Tortoise.

We're going to knit a hat for part of Guy's Halloween costume.

Chicken Pox

Guy got his Chicken Pox vaccine yesterday. It's so weird to me to know he will not be getting the Chicken Pox!! What kind of childhood is that? No Chicken Pox. He doesn't know how good he has it...

Scrapbook Pages : March Guy

I'm scrapbooking pics from March... ugh! Well, I'm going to work on Guy's scrapbook lots more until I'm caught up then I'll slack off again! I will probably do less his second year so I don't get so behind. Plus there is a huge change he isn't going to care later and he lets me keep these. Boys can be like that!

A Very Special Birthday!

Guy's birthday was Sunday! He woke up early to open presents!

After Church and a Burger King breakfast for a little Prince we came home for a nap!
Then once we got up we brushed our teeth while watching Elmo's World on Birthdays.

Time to open more presents! "What is this? I don't care - it's my favorite!"

"A harmonica? I knew that. Give it back, dad!!"

At noon it was time for Guy's party! We went to Magic Carpet Mini Golf for pizza... and more presents! Guy had lots of mommy and daddy's friends show up. He felt very loved!

Time for cake! We had Hostess Cupcakes since they are Guy's favorites! He had one last week for the first time and went bonkers!Time to play some mini-golf!

"This is my ball now! Here, use this rock - it's kind of round..."

After his party...Guy was so tired! Too tired to sleep! And since it was his birthday mommy put him in the car and took for a very long drive. He didn't sleep at all, he just stared out the window. We picked up dinner on the way home so we wouldn't waste 3 gallons of gas for nothing. After dinner the little birthday boy was ready to conk out. Momma read him a Little Critter story and gave him some warm milk.
Guy's best birthday yet!

Apple Pie!

It's autumn so it seemed right for an apple pie! This is the first time I've made my own pie crust. It turned out yummy but rolling it out was hard because it wouldn't stay together. I think next time I'll add more water! My King Arthur Flour baking cookbook provided me with this recipe and some tips that I ignored but will use next time!

New Family Member

I'm 2 tiny weeks pregnant. To celebrate Guy likes to crawl on my belly and jump up and down. I don't like it one bit and I doubt his little sibling does either. He has been banned from belly jumping and other only child privileges will soon disappear for the little man. He's tough - he can take it.

The little person is due to escape sometime around May 30th.

Lunch Picnic

Is your food better than mine?

Pizza Pie

I'm getting pretty decent at making homemade pizza! This was dinner on Monday and was delicious.

Summer is Ending!

In the summer I haven't really been as passionate about food. But, I'm getting into the baking mood again. I tried baking a 7-Up Bundt Cake yesterday. I thought it sounded delicious but I did not like it and I threw the recipe away! My new favorite thing to do with 7-Up is mix it with Kool-Aid. My husband taught me it because it doesn't seem obvious to me like I'm sure it does lots of other people.

A Nice Gesture

Guy helped his daddy finish reading some books by tearing the boring pages out!

Baby Stole the Tape!

Guy is pretty much running now. He has 4 teeth with 2 more coming in. He's ready for his first birthday! He got his first 1st birthday card yesterday from his best friend Geoffry the Giraffe. He has never been so excited over a card!

A Little Gentleman

I don't have any pics to share but today at Gymboree Guy was a little gentleman. He would pick up toys and offer them to the other little ones. Then he poked a little girl on the nose. It was a polite gesture. He was trying to compliment her on her nice nose.

State Fair

We took Guy to the state fair last night. It was opening night with free parking and admission. We had to take Guy on the carousel because I said so. Guy was pretty good with sitting on the horses, but during the last half of the ride with me he just wanted to hug - it's his way of saying "Thanks!"

Rubber Stamping

I went to a Rubber Stamping party last week and made this...I think it's swell. I mailed it to my grandma. I hope to make more cards but I'm not as good without instructions.

Guy's Book List

We haven't updated our reading list in awhile. Guy's read all these books since his last book post: Currently reading:
The Grim Grotto

Friday, August 15, 2008

I was going to post something else, but my computer is just full of pictures of Guy. And I just bumped into one I love. A friend of mine took this picture of the handsome fellow. I can't help but think "How luck am I?" I spend my days with the coolest person in the world! Guy is so silly and funny and happy. He is just wonderful. In fact, I might just go watch him sleep...

Guy's Afternoon at the Marina

The marina is 4 miles from our place. It has lifeguards, a playground, and a snow cone stand. Aside from the food, it's all free.

This afternoon I took Guy to the marina to have fun. When we went swimming I SWEAR I saw a fish the size of Guy swim past us and it frightened me. I can't imagine a fish that big being in there so I asked a kid. Then I listened forever about how fishing is cool and I should try it sometime and some other off-topic stuff. So we stayed in the shallow water after not getting an answer. I won't let a fish eat my baby!

We had a coupon for a free lemonade at the snack bar. It tasted like lemonade KoolAid. So Guy drank some and played with the lemon. He played with the straw, too. Don't forget the ice cubes! He also played with those.
After our drink, we went swimming. Guy would let go of me and try to walk through the water. He ate lots of dirt doing that.

Did I say we had fun or what?
